How often can I tan?
Motor City Tan allows each tanner to use the sunbeds once per calendar day.
Can I share my tanning package with family or friends?
No, Motor City Tan does not allow sharing of packages. However, we do offer Tandem Tanning Tuesdays. Bring your friend, spouse, sibling, whoever you want in any Tuesday and they tan for FREE at your membership level!
Do my sessions/packages ever expire?
Our 5 and 10 session packages never expire. Unless otherwise specified all other packages expire 1 year from the date of purchase. If you are unsure of the expiration date of your package simply give us a call or stop by our salon, one of our associates will be happy to look it up for you.
Memberships
How do I cancel my membership?
You may cancel or freeze your membership by coming in to Motor City Tan, unfortunately we cannot do this over the phone. Both cancelling and freezing must be done before the last day of the month in order for it to be effective for the following month.
What does 'freezing' my membership mean?
When you freeze your membership we draft $5 from the card you have on file at the beginning of every month instead of your normal monthly membership fee. The $5 goes back on your account as tan dollars which can be used towards anything in the store! This includes upgrades, lotions and packages. Your membership will stay frozen until you come in to Motor City Tan and unfreeze it at which point your normal monthly membership fee will be withdrawn from your card once again.
Why would I want to freeze my membership rather than cancel?
Freezing your membership offers many beneifts:
- You can still take advantage of exclusive members only deals
- The price of our monthly memberships may go up over time. By freezing as opposed to canceling you're insuring that you will keep the low membership rate you signed up at.
Can I just pay cash for my monthly membership?
If you are joining the EFT program we will need a credit card on file for the monthly draft. This works just like a gym membership, your monthly membership fee comes out on the 1st of every month. There are other packages available that don't require a credit card or bank account.
How do I make changes to my account?
All changes must be made in person at the salon.
Sunbed Tanning
How old do I have to be to Sunbed tan?
We do not allow anyone under the age of 14 to sunbed tan. If you are under 18 a parent or guardian must sign a consent form before you may tan.
Do I have to wear goggles?
Absolutely! Besides being required by both state and federal law goggles protect the delicate eye tissue from UV exposure. Too much UV exposure can cause permanent damage to your eyes.
How do I know the sunbed is clean?
Motor City Tan cleans our sunbeds and sunless booths after every use with sanitizer approved by both the FDA and EPA. Not only do we clean the tanning bed acrylics but all other furniture that the previous tanner may have come in contact with including the stools, pillow or acrylic head rest, and tanning bed handles. After the room has been cleaned a sanitized sign is placed on the bed so that every client knows their bed was sanitized. This process does take a few minutes to insure that it is done completely. Do I have to make an appointment?
No, Motor City Tan takes both sunbed and sunless tanners on a walk-in basis.
What should I wear in the sunbed?
This is up to you. All our tanning rooms are completely private so you may tan in whatever you feel comfortable in, or nothing at all! Just remember, areas that have not seen the sun outdoors are more likely to be over exposed.
How do I care for my sunbed tan?
Moisturizing is the best way to prolong and protect your sunbed tan! Motor City Tan sells a wide array of tanning lotions and tan extenders to help you achieve your perfect tan. Our sales associates can assist you in choosing the appropriate products to meet your tanning needs.

How old do I have to be to Sunless tan?
We do not allow anyone under the age of 14 to Sunless tan without direct supervision from a parent or guardian. If you are under 18 a parent or guardian must sign a consent form before you may sunless tan.

What should I wear for my sunless tan?
This is up to you. All our tanning rooms are completely private so you may tan in whatever you feel comfortable in, or nothing at all! You may chose to wear a bathing suit or disposable undergarments which may be purchased for a nominal fee at the reception desk. Just remember anything that is covered while in the sunless booth will not get any color. Additionally, any garments that come in direct contact with the sunless solution may be stained. Lighter colored clothing is more likely to be stained than darker colors.
How do I prepare for my sunless tan?
Before arriving at the salon you should shower, shave and exfoliate. Avoid using lotions with silicone in them and perfume the day of your sunless session as they may inhibit the solution from being properly absorbed. Immediately before your sunless tan apply a pH balancing lotion to prolong the life of your sunless tan and to insure that the solution absorbs evenly.
Motor City Tan offers several lines of sunless products such as shower gel, exfoliants, shave lotions and pH balancing prep lotions. Our trained sales associates can assist you in creating a sunless prep kit that meets your needs!
How do I care for my sunless tan?
Moisturizing is the best way to prolong and protect your sunless tan. Motor City Tan offers a number of after-tan moisturizers as well as self tanners. Our sales associates can help you select the perfect combination of products to extend the life of your sunless tan!
Can I do a sunless tan and sunbed tan on the same day?
Of course! We even have a name for this: cocktail tanning. First, tan in any level sunbed, (we recommend our Diamond beds) which helps to open your pores and promotes better absorption of the sunless solution. Immediately following your sunbed tan, move to our sunless room for your customized Mystic Tan HD or Norvell Auto Revolution Plus experience. You will leave the salon with a natural, instant glow! Cocktail tanning is perfect for weddings and events, or whenever you want a dark, instant tan!
